Obituary of Elaine Akins Townes

Elaine Akins Townes passed on April 11, 2022. Preceding her in death were her Parents, Margie and Cecil Akins of Smyrna. Elaine is survived by her Husband Douglas, Sisters Cecile and Doyle Martin of Powder Springs, Geneva and Hans Milo of Smyrna, Sister-in law Frances and Fred Wright of Canton. Nieces Debbie Goodspeed, Patty Martin, Sherri & Wes Dodson, Michele and Wyatt Nichols, nephews Andy & Angela Martin, and Michael Grabruck. Twelve Great nephews and nieces, and two great, great nieces and nephews.

Elaine held various positions in Florida and Georgia Government including State Fire marshal of Florida and State Risk Manager of Georgia. She was a past president of the DOI Toastmasters, State Risk Managers and Insurance Managers Association and past Commander of the St Marks Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 24. She enjoyed being on the water with Atlanta Sail and Power Squadron friends. Her favorite times were entertaining family and friends at the Townes Lake Lodge in Young Harris.

A memorial service is scheduled for Roswell Street Baptist Church, 774 Roswell St NE, Marietta, GA, 11:00 am on April 23, 2022.
