Judith Ann Decker Obituary

On Friday, January 5, 2024 in Clearwater, Florida, our cherished Mother Judith Ann Decker passed peacefully with Thomas, her beloved husband of 67 years, and her daughters by her side.

Born the second of three daughters on September 3, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to Margaret Carroll and Walter I. Carroll, Judy enjoyed 86 years as a devout Roman Catholic.

In her early years she and her two sisters, Joan (the eldest and now deceased) and Janet (the youngest), attended St. Scholastica Elementary School in Detroit until her family chose rural life in the Detroit suburb of Farmington.  It was at her horse farm in Farmington that Judy grew to be one of the top Morgan horsewomen in the country, a talent she later shared with her daughter Jill and niece Sharon.

Judy was graduated from Farmington High School in 1955.  A year later she married her cowboy romance and the love of her life, Thomas.  “They said it wouldn’t work,” she wrote, “but we showed ‘em.”

Judy loved to cook and entertain company.  She was an avid golfer, canning two holes-in-one, as well as a voracious reader and traveler.  She grew to be known as “Beau’s grandma” at his University of Oklahoma golf outings, and she could always be found cheering on grandson Parker with family during his televised Ohio University Bobcat football games.

In addition to being a wonderful daughter, wife, and mom, Judy was also a loving grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and “second mom” to many friends and in-laws.

She is survived by her husband Thomas William Decker, sister Janet Milan, son Steven Donald Decker (Emy), daughter Jill Carroll Ann Peterson (Mitch), son Brooks Thomas Decker (Susie), daughter Staci Leigh Titsworth (Jeff Swedish), and son Todd Keenan Decker (Betsy).  She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren Derek Decker (Lauren), Bradford Peterson (Spencer), Morgan Peters (Mike), Colten Decker (Tayler), Dillon Decker, Beau Titsworth (Megan), Tiffany Warner (Dustin), Jerod Decker (Kelly), Stuart Decker, Parker Titsworth, Trey Decker, Nathan Decker, and Makelah Decker as well as her 8 great-grandchildren Lilly Warner, Hailey Decker, Jamie Decker, Brooke Peters, Peyton Peters, Joseph Decker, Lochlan Peterson, and Avery Peters. “We’ve been blessed beyond,” she would often say proudly.  She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren Derek Decker, Bradford Peterson, Morgan Peters, Colten Decker, Dillon Decker, Beau Titsworth, Tiffany Warner, Jerod Decker, Stuart Decker, Parker Titsworth, Trey Decker, Nathan Decker, and Makelah Decker as well as her 8 great-grandchildren Lilly Warner, Hailey Decker, Jamie Decker, Brooke Peters, Peyton Peters, Joseph Decker, Lochlan Peterson, and Avery Peters.  “We’ve been blessed beyond,” she would often say proudly.

Judy’s family is very grateful to everyone who came to visit her in the hospital.  The family also wishes to thank the medical teams at Morton Plant Hospital along with neighbors Dennis Davenport and Aunt Ocia, who helped tremendously.  Special recognition and gratitude go to daughters Jill and Staci who ensured Mom received continuous and tireless love and care every step of that long and difficult road back home.

The Decker Family invites you to celebrate Mom's life at visitation on Tuesday, February 27 at Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home located at 23720 Farmington Rd., Farmington, MI 48336 from 5:00 - 8:00pm.
