Obituary of Robert Arthur Mello

Robert "Bob" Mello, age 75, of Largo, FL, passed away on January 26th, 2024 at Mease Countryside Hospital. Bob was born and raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He graduated from the electrical trade in 1968 from New Bedford Vocational High School. Bob worked at Sunbeam Baking Company as a baker and was Chief Steward of the International Bakers and Confectioners Union.

Bob was preceded by his parents, Arthur M Mello and Emily (Medeiros) Mello, and his godchild Paul Ferreira. Bob is survived by his sister Lois A Mello; daughter Erica A Rodrigues; son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Sonia Mello; six grandchildren, Olivia Pacheco and her husband Matthew , Daron Rodrigues, Kyle Mello,Tatiana Rodrigues, Aiden Rodrigues and Dylan Rodrigues, all of New Bedford, MA. Bob is also survived by three godsons, Norman A Frechette of Westport, MA, Michael P. Green and wife Melissa of Manchester ,TN, and Christopher W Beaulieu of New Bedford, MA, as well as multiple cousins.

Bob was an avid lover of all New England sport teams, his Dallas Cowboys and his Los Angelas Dodgers. He enjoyed watching all of the games with his friends at his favorite “watering hole” Gooses, eating what he claimed were the best chicken wings around. He loved all dogs, especially his Doberman Sebastian and his Golden Retriever Rocky. Bob also enjoyed bowling, golf, and visiting the local VFW.

Bob was a proud Navy veteran and enjoyed talking with other veterans most of all. He served as a Seaman in the United States Navy while stationed aboard the U.S.S. Nitro.
