Obituary of Jarrell Jay Mikuta
Jarrell Jay Mikuta, “Jay”, 63, of St. Petersburg, Florida passed away peacefully at Suncoast Hospice in Pinellas Park on Thursday, October 19, 2023. Born in Wuerzburg, Germany as an “army brat”, Jay lived all over the world growing up but settled in the Tampa Bay area in the 80’s after graduating from the University of Florida in 1982. He has lived with his wife, Fran, for the past 24 years in St. Petersburg, Florida where they raised their two sons, Connor and Kevin.
Jay was employed by Nielsen Media Research for 40+ years. Using the words of his most recent manager, “Jay's thumbprint sits in the architecture of virtually every major initiative we've delivered...always there with a clever solution to solve a seemingly unsolvable problem."
In his younger years, Jay enjoyed tennis & roller blading. He was an avid golfer for many years. Each summer, he checked a location off the travel bucket list as he took his family on landmark vacations such as Yosemite, Washington D.C., the Grand Canyon and many more. Jay traveled on mission trips to Honduras on multiple occasions where he enjoyed providing the rural villagers with reading glasses.
Jay is preceded in death by his grandparents. He is survived by his parents, Col. Joel Mikuta and Jean Ann Mikuta, his wife, Fran Mikuta, his children Connor Mikuta and Kevin Mikuta, his brother Joel Mikuta, Jr.(& wife Laurie).
His beautiful smile, bright blue eyes and calm demeanor will be remembered and missed by all who knew him. Per Jay’s request, there will be no service planned other than a small family & close friend gathering to celebrate his life.
