Obituary of Betty V Powell

Betty V. Powell, age 87, of St. Petersburg, passed away on October 4th, 2023. She was born and raised in Rapides Parrish, LA. 

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Powell, Sr; her parents Edward and Emma Vercher of Lousiana; brothers Kenneth Wayne Vercher, Dudley Vercher, Claude Neal Vercher and sister Carolyn Faye Rogers.

She is survived by her son James (Robert Baker) Powell, Jr. of St Petersburg; sister Pauline Godron of Lousiana; brothers Winford Vercher of Louisiana and Eddie Vercher of Louisiana; and many other family members and friends. 

Betty spent much of her life caring for foster children and teenagers. She brought them home onto her large cattle and horse farm. The foster children would help with farm chores, such as mowing the grass. In addition to her passion for horses and dogs, Betty also enjoyed boating, sailing and riding motorcycles. She loved Bacardi and gambling. 

The family will hold a private Celebration of Life at a later date.
