Obituary of John H McCraney

John "Jack" H. McCraney passed away peacefully on the morning of July 18th at Freedom Square Nursing home of Seminole, Florida with his loving wife of 66 years, Mattie McCraney, by his side. Jack, as he was known to his friends, formally of Moline, Illinois, was born in Jackson, Mississippi and was raised by his stepfather and mother, Fred and Rebecca McElroy, of Port Huron, Michigan. 

Jack graduated from Port Huron High School and participated in golf, tennis, football, and basketball. He then enrolled and graduated from Southern Methodist University of Dallas, Texas, with a degree in economics and finance. Upon graduation Jack enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a fighter pilot during the Korean War stationed on the USS Bennington aircraft carrier. 

After his service completion, Jack started his professional career at Merrill Lynch’s Detroit office and completed his distinguished career as chief investment officer for Brook Street Securities, Moline, Illinois office. 

Jack enjoyed a wonderful retirement with his wife in Largo, Florida and became a local favorite with the community of golfers throughout the Largo community. 

Jack was blessed with four children, Kathie McCraney of Louisville Ky, John J. McCraney of Springfield, KS, William "Bill" (Lisa) McCraney of Prospect, KY and Thomas McCraney of Charlotte, NC, along with eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. 

The family will be holding a Memorial Service for Jack in Port Huron, Michigan. He will be laid to rest in Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, FL, at a later date.
