Obituary of Marilyn Jo Roberson Kirby

Marilyn Jo Kirby went home to Jesus on Monday January 24, 2022.

Marilyn was born in Birmingham, Alabama on July 14,1951 to A.L. Roberson and Charlotte Kennedy Roberson.

Marilyn spent most of her childhood in the town of Lipscomb, Alabama. She came to know the Lord at a young age and was baptized at Broadmoor Baptist Church. She attended Lipscomb Junior High and Jones Valley High School. She got her G.E.D. in 1969 and went to work for Liberty National Insurance Company.

She was a rabid University of Alabama football fan. Roll Tide! She & her brother John got to watch the last National Championship game together January 10, 2022. She was also a huge NASCAR fan. In her younger days, most of her Friday evenings, you would find her at Birmingham International Raceway pulling for Red Farmer.

Marilyn met and married Franklin D. Kirby in 1977. She and Frank lived in Petersburg, Virginia, Ozark, Arkansas and Safety Harbor, FL. They enjoyed golfing and boating. Marilyn loved the beach and made Frank move near the beach in Safety Harbor, Florida!

Marilyn was employed by Cargile Inc in Altus, Arkansas and later on for TransAmerica in the Tampa Bay area where she made many friends.

Marilyn had been a member of Calvary Chapel in St Petersburg and enjoyed working in their bookstore and visiting with everyone.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Franklin D. Kirby, her parents, and her sister Elizabeth Lee Ann DiVergigelis.

Marilyn is survived by her brother, John Roberson and wife Debbie of Waco, Texas and their children: niece Sarah Martin and husband Jon (Children: Madison, Andrew & CJ) of Waco, Texas. Nephews: Jonathan Roberson, wife Danika (Children: Emily & her daughter Luna, Libby and her daughter Bailee, Jacob & Ainsley) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Aaron Roberson of Wheeling Illinois, Preston DiVergigelis, Newport Richey, Fl. and Tristan DiVergigelis, Hudson, Fl. First cousins Russell Bell and wife Lynne of Rome, Ga. and Dee Ann Bell Carlise and husband Barry of Pelham Alabama (Children: Kevin & Alex). Russell and Dee were as close as a brother and sister.

Everyone that knew Marilyn will tell you she was the kindest, most generous person they have ever met. She was nicknamed “Precious” by their Aunt Shirley Bell. Marilyn let others see Jesus in her.

In lieu of flowers:  Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or your local Humane Society.  

Services will be held on April 22, 2022 at 11am at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St Petersburg, FL
