Matthew P. Powell (Matt) 46, of Pinellas Park, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2020 at 4:35pm at his home. He was born in St Petersburg FL. on November 16,1973; son of the late Gloria Larson Powell and survived by his father Richard Powell. Matthew loved the Lord with all his heart. He loved going to church and for many years he was part of a Bible study group led by Pastor Frank Dehn, where he made wonderful friends for life. He had the opportunity to serve the Lord by going on Mission Trips through the Samaritan’s Purse Organization to help after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans; serving outside the country in Guatemala helping with construction work, helping in the community as part of a group called “Man of Arms”, also able to provide Prison Ministry and feeding the homeless at St Vincent De Paul shelter in St Petersburg FL. He loved to spend time with his family, celebrate Birthday parties at the park, go to Orlando for a family weekend, eat Chinese food and Hooters Chicken Wings every time he could. He loved to go to the beach to watch the sunset. He always felt closer to God by doing that. He loved to cook on the grill and was very good at it. Playing baseball was one of his hobbies and he loved to coach young kids every time he had a chance. He loved a good baseball game and was an avid fan of the Tampa Bay Rays. Matthew had a thing for fishing and hunting and he always told amazing stories about it and how fun it was to do that with his kids. He was not afraid to make friends and cultivated those friendships daily. Loved Facebook and understood the power of social media which he used to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife Edith who he loved unconditionally. They were married for 2 years and together for almost 5. He called her “My Princess” and was always open about the special love he had for her. Matt is survived by his kids Austin, Kelby and Dylan Powell. He loved them very much and was a wonderful father to them. He adored his grandkids Jordan and Lilliana Powell. There was not a day that he didn’t talk about them and it was important to him to be in their lives. He is also survived by his brother Buddy Powell and wife (Kathy), and sisters Pamela Wachtel and husband (John), Cindy Nelson and husband (Teddy) and Neva Butler and husband (Tom); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
