Obituary of Marcella Gunnoe

Marcella “Marcy” Gunnoe was granted her angel wings early Sunday morning just after sunrise July 28, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She was 87. Born in Comfort, WV on November 23, 1931, she was raised in a home filled with love by her adoring grandparents, Bertie and Jesse Adkins. Her dad, Cecil and stepmom Ada Adkins, also watching over her as she grew, along with lots of doting aunts and uncles. After graduation and working at The Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company in Charleston, WV, Marcella married and moved to Michigan to raise a family in 1954. She never forgot her “Almost Heaven, West Virginia” roots, making frequent trips through the years, keeping family ties unbroken. She was a caring, loving wife and mother, putting her family first, always. (The “cupcake baking for school” type of mom.) She eventually got a job working outside the home as office manager in healthcare for 30 years. Marcella’s fond memories of the football field at Sherman High, in Seth WV, marching with the band, as the prettiest majorette, even designing their uniforms, have brought many wonderful stories through the years. She also loved her class reunions and catching up. She enjoyed sewing (mastering about anything), and also crocheting. She was quite the southern cook, her homemade handheld fried apple pies a favorite. She loved all holidays, with Christmas the most special. Of course, everyone was invited to eat. A heartfelt passion for keeping in touch with relatives and friends followed her on a move to Florida in 2002. Her two children had moved there a few years prior and she (and Dad) wanted to be nearby. She loved beautiful flowers and pretty Florida butterflies (complete with a garden). She was involved in her community, on the social committee, helping to plan fun events. Those left behind to cherish Marcella’s memory include her husband of 66 years, Richard J. Gunnoe, daughter, Deborah Flamboe , son, Rod Gunnoe, son-in-law, Tim Flamboe, and two grand dogs, Indy and Isabella Rose. Sisters, Sue Adkins, Eva Martin, Pat Biggs, sister-in law, Rosie Adkins, along with nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews, cousins, special friends, and neighbors. Waiting to welcome her to her heavenly home include brother, Norman Lee Adkins, sisters, Carolyn Jones and Alice Faye Cavender, along with parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephew, and cherished friends. Also, family dog, Skippy, and two grand dogs, Jamoca and Jasmine. Marcella’s loving and sweet, spunky spirit lives on. She will have a special place in our hearts forever. It was Marcella’s wish that no service be held. Please remember her with a smile, especially if a butterfly happens to land on your shoulder.
