Obituary of Robert Lawrence Millan

Bob (Robert Lawrence) Millan went to live with Jesus Sunday, October 18th, 2020, after a long trial with dementia, and late onset Alzheimer’s, where he only proved the depths of his kind and gentle heart. Bob spent his life caring for others, as a loving husband and father as well as serving as a Deacon and Elder in his Christian life. He served in the U.S. Air Force and then the DC Air National Guard during the Berlin crisis. Working for NASA, he assisted in production and launch of two satellites. The bulk of his career was spent working with U.S. Customs, assisting in the protection of our borders by designing, implementing, and teaching others in the use of night vision, thermal, and infrared systems. When Bob retired to Florida in 1993, his true self continued to surface as he worked in many church capacities from mowing the lawn and church maintenance, to his greatest passion, as one of the founding members of “ToyMakers of East Lake.” He has been very involved in the disability community, supporting social activities through the YMCA, Special Olympics, and MASH (Mainstreamed Adults Sharing Hope). As his home hobby, Bob created stained glass works of art that brought many joy and amazement. Bob was married to Ann Carter Leonard almost 60 years. They created three beautiful daughters, Pam, Karen, and Robin. At nearly 83, he has left behind his wife and daughters and four grandchildren, Aaron, Leah, Adam, Matthew, and his younger sister and brother, Jeanne and Dale. Because of COVID, a private family service will be held. Bob had many friends who want to share in his Glory with God. A memorial table will be available, by appointment, for all to view at ToyMakers of East Lake starting on October 29th, which will be available for viewing for a couple of weeks. There will be a memory book to sign and reflect, and donations can to ToyMakers of East Lake in honor of Bob’s memory.
