Obituary of Sandra Kay Ramsden

Sandra “Sandie” Kay (Ford) Ramsden, 79, of Belleair, FL passed away peacefully on August 29, 2021. Sandie was born on March 25, 1942 in Churubusco, Indiana, the only child of Lamolie and Evelyn Ford. She was raised in Auburn, Indiana and attended Ball State Teachers College and University where she was a member of Sigma, Sigma, Sigma sorority and earned her Bachelors and Masters of Arts in Education. She was married to Robert Ramsden from 1965-1991 and lived in Indiana, Connecticut, Dallas, Chicago, and Oklahoma City before settling in Belleair in 1978. Sandie was very active in her sorority, panhellenic, and the community throughout the years. She was a national officer and a member of various alumnae chapters of Sigma, Sigma, Sigma, earning the Outstanding Alumnae of the Region award in 2002 and eventually serving as the President of the Pinellas County Alumnae Club. She also served the Clearwater Alumnae Panhellenic as a delegate over the last 20 years, including officer rotations and President. Sandie was a charter member of the Greater Belleair Young Women’s Society, holding various chairmanships and offices, including President in 1982. She was a member of the Fine Arts Society (auxiliary to the Gulf Coast Museum of Arts) since 1980, including President from 1987-89. She was a Board of Directors member and fund raiser co-chairman for New Directions and fund raiser co-chairman for 1000 Plus Committee (auxiliaries to American Cancer Society), and committee chairman and Vice President of the St. Paul’s School PTA. As a member of the Clearwater Yacht Club since 1980, Sandie was very active within the club and held many leadership positions. She was a charter member and pram sailor of the Bow Chasers women’s sailing club (various chairmanships and offices including Captain/President, 1995), teaching many club members how to sail over the years. For sailing regattas, she held committee chairmanships and was the Landside Chairman in 1991 and 1992. She also joined the Florida Women’s Sailing Association, serving as secretary for two years and President in 1998. Sandie was on the Clearwater Yacht Club Board of Directors from 1996-2002 serving as Director, Hospitality Chair (2 years), and Secretary (3 years) before moving into the Commodore rotation, serving as the Rear Commodore, Vice Commodore, and then Commodore during the CYC Centennial year in 2011. She was also a member of the International Order of the Blue Gavel for past Commodores. Sandie became a realtor in 2001 with Beachcomber Real Estate, which eventually became part of Coldwell Banker. She still left time for community activities, worldwide travel, visits to see her grandchildren, and especially for bridge. During the pandemic, she helped many of her fellow players continue to enjoy bridge by making the transition from playing in person to playing online. Sandie is survived by two children who are very grateful for all the time, support and love she provided raising them — her daughter, Paige Peterson of Atlanta, GA and husband Tom; her son, Patrick Ramsden of Boca Raton, FL and wife Chris; and her beloved grandchildren Robert and Sam Peterson and Alex Ramsden. A celebration of Sandie’s life will be announced as arrangements are made. To honor Sandie’s love of teaching sailing in the Clearwater community, contributions may be made to the Sandie Ramsden Memorial Fund with the Clearwater Community Sailing Center at https://secure.givelively.org/donate/clearwater-community-sailing-association-inc/sandie-ramsden-memorial-fund
